Cấu tạo từ (Word Formation)

Cấu tạo từ tạo đúng từ loại từ một gốc bằng tiền tố và hậu tố (produce → production → productive → productively). Hậu tố thường báo hiệu từ loại: -tion/-ment/-ness (danh từ), -ise/-ify (động từ), -able/-ive/-ful (tính từ), -ly (trạng từ). Tiền tố như un-, in-, dis-, re- đổi nghĩa. Đây là trọng tâm TOEIC Part 5, nơi vị trí trong câu cho biết cần chọn dạng nào.

Ý chính

• Đọc vị trí: chủ ngữ/tân ngữ → danh từ; trước danh từ → tính từ; bổ nghĩa động từ → trạng từ. Read the position: subject/object → noun; before a noun → adjective; modifying a verb → adverb.
• Hậu tố danh từ: -tion, -ment, -ness, -ity, -ance; trạng từ: -ly. Noun suffixes: -tion, -ment, -ness, -ity, -ance; adverb: -ly.
• Tiền tố phủ định: un-, in-/im-/il-/ir-, dis-, non-. Negative prefixes: un-, in-/im-/il-/ir-, dis-, non-.

Ví dụ

• The team improved productivity significantly. Nhóm đã cải thiện năng suất đáng kể.
• Their response was highly professional. Phản hồi của họ rất chuyên nghiệp.
• We need managerial approval before proceeding. Chúng ta cần sự phê duyệt của cấp quản lý trước khi tiến hành.

Lỗi người Việt hay gặp

• Sai dạng theo vị trí: "improved productive" → "improved productivity". Wrong form for the slot: "improved productive" → "improved productivity".
• Dùng tính từ chỗ cần trạng từ: "highly professional" (trạng từ + tính từ). Adjective where an adverb is needed: "highly professional" (adverb + adjective).
